Golden Lion Tamarin & Rainforest Impressions
The Golden Lion Tamarins (GLTs) are tiny endangered monkeys found only in the Atlantic Coastal Forest of Southeast Brazil.
This experience combines the chance to observe the Golden Lion Tamarin in its natural environment with a stay immersed in the Atlantic Forest at Eco Lodge Itororó.
The visitation to the Golden Lion Tamarins needs to be planned and booked well ahead. On your transfer from or to Eco Lodge Itororó, you may stop to observe them in the wild.

DAY BY DAY
A guided journey through forest, wildlife and conservation
DAY 1
Rio to the Atlantic Forest
Departure from Rio in the early morning. On the way to Eco Lodge Itororó, a stop is made in a rainforest area where guests may observe and photograph Golden Lion Tamarins in the wild. After arrival at the lodge, guests enjoy lunch, a guided visit through the conservation project and an evening at the deck and fireplace.
DAY 2
Hike to Porcelet
After a hearty breakfast, the group hikes to Porcelet Mountain to admire the surrounding landscape, including the Três Picos reserve. The afternoon is free to explore the rainforest, observe birds and fauna, spend time in the photo hide, and with some luck spot rare species such as the yellow-eared marmoset or a sloth.
DAY 3
Final impressions and return
After a delicious breakfast, there is still time to enjoy the last impressions of the lodge surroundings before departing for Rio. On the way back, there is a brief stop to admire one of Brazil’s largest and oldest tree specimens.
A RARE ENCOUNTER
Wildlife can’t be promised. But the chances are high.
Golden Lion Tamarins move freely in nature, so sightings can never be guaranteed with complete certainty. Still, the probability of seeing and photographing them is very high.
In recent years, more than 85% of our guests have been able to observe them in the wild.
